Vande Mataram echoes in Teachers Day celebrations in Asom

Guwahati, Sep 05 (UNI) Even as the "Vandemataram" continued to be shrouded in controversies across the nation, students in Asom chose to sing the song to pay respect to their teachers.

Students participating in Kamrup district administration's Teachers' Day celebrations here today, presented the national song immediately after chanting the Guru Vandana". This was a break from the normal custom of singing only the "Guru Vandana".

The Central celebrations were held in Tezpur, the district headquarters of Education Minister Ripun Bora's constituency.

Altogether 36 teachers were awarded in today's celebrations by the state Government. Moreover, five others from the state received their national - level awards from the President at New Delhi.
