Teachers losing faith in their profession: Governor
Agartala, Sep 5 (UNI) Tripura Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya has expressed deep concern over the lack of professionalism by the teachers in the present society.
Speaking at the ocassion teachers' day celebration organised by the state education department to fecilitate 20 eminent educationists for their valuable contribution in the field of education in the state, the Governor said that the teachers are losing faith in thier profession.
Mr Sahaya, who was a teacher himself in his early life, congratulated the state government for its relentless effort to make Tripura a 'full literate' state.
"The literacy rate has increased from 74.36 percent to 80.14 percent. It is incredible that the state government has taken steps to improve the literacy rate in the state and full credit goes to the teachers," the Governor added.
He also congratulated the teachers for bringing down the dropout rates in both the primary and secondary levels.
The Governor presented Amarendra Sarma with the Pandit Vidyasagar award for his contribution in the field of teaching. Mr Sarma was also the former speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The award consist of Rs 10000 in cash along with few books, a souvenior and a shawl.
Twenty other eminent educationists were fecilitated on the ocassion.
Education Minister Keshab Majumdar, Information and Cultural and Tourism (ICAT) Minister Anil Sarkar, Agartala Municipal Council Chairman Shankar Das, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and vice-chancellor S C Gaur among others were present in the ocassion.
