Tax law changes to cut litigation: CBEC

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) With a view to dispensing with the rigours of adjudication procedure, the amended Central Excise Act has provided an optional scheme for voluntary payment of duty by assesses, Chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs V P Singh said today.

'' The changes in the Central Excise Act provide an optional scheme for voluntary payment of duty by assesses, in full or in part, in cases involving fraud, mis-statement etc along with interest and 25 per cent of the duty amount as penalty within 30 days of the receipt of the show-cause-notice thereby dispensing with the rigours of adjudication procedure'', Mr Singh said here. He said the changes would bring down the litigation relating to excise matter.
