Security foils child's bid to watch father honoured by Kalam

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Security men here turned away a ten-year-old who had travelled hundreds of miles just to see her father honoured by India's President.

Ten-year-old Amruta Ambekar had come here all the way from Jalna district of Maharashtra to see President APJ Abdul Kalam honouring her father with National Award on the Teachers Day, but she and her siblings had to return disappointed.

''My daughter desperately wanted to see Dr Kalam as she had heard so much about his love for children, but the security personnel did not allow our children in,''said Kusum Ambekar, the wife of honoured teacher Rameshwar Baburao Ambekar.

Amruta said she was disappointed that her wish to see President Kalam could not be fulfilled despite travelling thousand of km.

Her mother said the children had to wait outside the Vigyan Bhawan for two hours. They could enter the venue only after the President had left.

When pointed out that it had already been spelt out that only one person would accompany the awardee, the Mrs Ambekar said rules should have been relaxed for teachers coming from far off places of the country.

Mr Ambekar is among the 313 teachers awarded on the occasion. He is teaching at a primary school at Mathpimpalgaon in Jalna district of the state.
