Meghalaya govt to enhance adhoc grant to all schools, Dr Roy

Shillong, Sep 5 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has taken steps to enhance the Adhoc grant of all adhoc schools in the state, said state Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Higher and Technical Education Dr Donkupar Roy today.

Speaking at Teachers' Day function here, where five teachers were awarded, Dr Roy assured teachers of releasing their salary in time, saying the government was examining all problems faced by the deficit and adhoc schoolteachers.

He informed the school teachers that the government had agreed that deficit college teachers will get the same Dearness Allowance as government school teachers.

" The amount for the same will be sanctioned soon, " Dr Roy said adding the government had formed a committee to look into the social safety benefits to teachers.

Recalling the hard work rendered by teachers, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasised on committed and trained teachers to ensure students achieve their goal.

Prestone Tynsong, Minister in-charge, Mass and Elementary Education, who also spoke on the occasion, stressed on the importance of quality education.

High drop-outs rate, unplanned opening of schools and lack of quality teachers are the main causes that hamper quality education in the state, he said.

Mr Tynsong said the government was taking correctives measures like implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan which aims at providing quality education to children of age 6 to 14 years.

In order to retain and improve the daily attendance of the children in school, he said the government had implemented the mid-day meal scheme.

With regard to backlog of teachers at elementary level, Mr Tynsong said DIET had been set up in each districts besides basic training centre and normal training centres.

Later in the day, Deputy Chief Minister handed over the awards to the recipents of state and districts awards. The recipents of the awards -- Mr G Lyngdoh, Mr O R Nongrum, Mrs Lukhima Ranee, Mr Resparly Imiong and Mrs Tona Lakiang.
