India provides Rs 1.2 crore for school in Nepal

Kathmandu, Sep 5 (UNI) India has provided Rs 1.2 crore for the construction of a school building in Dolakha district in Nepal.

The foundation stone of the building for Shree Kalinchowk Secondary School, Charikot, Dolakha, was laid by Minister (Economic Cooperation) on behalf of the Ambassador of India to Nepal, Mr Shiv Shankar Mukherjee in the presence of the representatives of local government and community leaders at a public gathering.

The construction of the school building will greatly contribute to the education in Dolakha and adjoining districts by providing improved infrastructure for learning, the Indian embassy said in a press release.

The commitment of India to triple the development assistance and double the scholarships for Nepalese students to strengthen and diversify bilateral economic cooperation, following the visit of Nepal's Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, to India in June this year, was reiterated during the function. The need for development of education as the most important factor for the overall development in Nepal was also taken into account.

Currently, the bilateral cooperation programme between the two countries was witnessing the realisation of 155 projects in education, health and infrastructure sectors in all 75 districts of Nepal with an outlay of NRs. 1800 crore, the embassy said.

These were ongoing projects, and distinct from the Rs 15 billion economic package announced during the visit of Prime Minister Koirala to India.
