In range bound trade Sensex pares gain ends low at 11,904 pts

Mumbai, Sep 5 (UNI) The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index (Sensex) today pared gains and settled marginally below the previous close at 11,904.60, as the Asian benchmark indices slowed down, and also due to corrections which were expected at the higher levels.

Similarly the National Stock Exchange S&P CNX Nifty shed 3.10 points or 0.09 per cent to clsoe at 3,473.75.

The breadth in the broader market turned negative in favour of 1296 declines as against 1,243 advances and 78 scrips that remained unchanged out of total 2,617 scrips that traded the BSE counters today.

The BSE clocked a turnover of Rs 2,797 crore, compared to Monday's Rs 2,879 crore.

Asian markets were mixed. Japan's Nikkei 225 average rose 0.17 per cent, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.4 per cent. The US market was closed on Monday on account of Labour Day holiday.

Amongst the sectoral indices on the BSE Consumer Durables was down by 0.92 per cent to 3062.15 points, IT was down by 0.34 per cent to 4,350.36 points, FMCG was down by 0.71 per cent to 2036.34 points, and the Oil and Gas was down by 0.15 per cent to 5746.64 points. The gainers amongst the indices were Metals up by 1.92 per cent to 8390.13, PSU up by 0.64 per cent to 5658.42 and capital Goods was up by 0.37 per cent to 7947.59 points.

The BSE Dollex indices however was up with Dollex-30 being up at 0.04 per cent to 2,114.14 points, Dollex-100 up by 0.14 per cent to 1,355.99 and Dollex-200 up by 0.20 per cent to 515.44 points.

The major gainers on BSE-30 Sensex were Reliance Energy up by 2.83 per cent to Rs 464.75, ACC up by 2.57 per cent to Rs 943.50, Hindalco up by 2.46 per cent to Rs 178.95, Reliance Communications was up by 1.62 per cent to Rs 304.75, Tata Steel up by 1.52 per cent to Rs 513.50, ONGC up by 1.29 per cent to Rs 1,228.25, BHEL up by 1.28 per cent to Rs 2,287.55, Grasim industries up by 1.26 per cent to Rs 2,304.90, Gujarat Ambuja up by 1.23 per cent to Rs 115.65, Cipla up by 1.10 per cent to Rs 261.25.

Major losers on the index were - Wipro down by 1.36 per cent to Rs 515.50, Dr Reddy's Lab down by 1.33 per cent to Rs 729.55, ITC down by 1.29 per cent to Rs 187.65, ICICI was down by 1.23 per cent to Rs 613.10, Tata Motors down by 1.21 per cent to Rs 886.40, Maruti Udyog down by 1.15 per cent to Rs 893.00, TCS down by 1.13 per cent to Rs 1,006.30, Infosys down by 0.74 per cent to Rs 1,834.10, L&T down by 0.71 per cent to Rs 2,466.50 and HDFC bank down by 0.63 per cent to Rs 873.90.
