Hanumangarh chosen for prestigious education award
Jaipur, Sep 5 (UNI) Hanumangarh in Rajasthan has been chosen for the prestigious Satyen Maitra award this year for successful implementation of the National Literacy Mission in the district.
The district has been especially awarded for implementation of adult education programme and regular educational projects.
The Adult Education Programme was started in Hanumangarh in November 2001 for students between 15 to 35 years of age. For this, 2,646 centres were opened, out of which 2,481 were set up in rural areas.
In 2002, 5,758 adults were prepared for equivalent exams, out of which 740 adults have cleared their exams by Dec 2005.
Seven such centres have been set up in tehsils where children and women from poor families can come and study. Eklavya Ashram in Hanumangarh town has been established as an ideal centre.
At least 595 regular education centres have been started in district for children between 6-14 years where 3,829 children of very poor families are being taught.
