Famous 'Thayambaka' artiste dies due to heart-attack

Palakkad, Sep 5 (UNI) Well-known 'Thayambaka' artiste Aalipparambu Sivarama Pothuval died here today due to cardiac arrest.

Eighty two year-old Pothuval suffered a massive heart attack this morning at his residence at Cherupulasseri and died on the way to a hospital.

He was the recipient of several awards. He had his Arangettam' at the age of ten and was adept at playing instruments such as idakka', chenda' and paani'.

Thayambaka is an orchestra of the native Chenda (drum). The rousing rhythm of this traditional orchestra is a singular feature of many temple festivals and rituals in Kerala.
