Elaborate arrangements in place for Ganesh immersion tomorrow

Mumbai, Sep 5 (UNI) Elaborate security arrangments have been made in the metropolis for immersion of Ganesh idols tomorrow.

The immersion process will be conducted at 82 different spots in the city, police commissioner A N Roy told reporters here today.

Mr Roy said in view of intelligence reports of terrorists' threat, heightened security arrangements had been made for the peaceful conclusion of the ten-day festival. Social organisations had been roped in to assist the police during the festival, he said.

The police chief informed that there were 4,500 ''Sarvajanik Ganapati Mandals (groups)'' in the city which would immerse the idols at 82 diferent spots.

Heavy police ''bandobast'' has been maintained in the sensitive areas, Mr Roy said. Road traffic has been diverted in most parts of the city to ensure smooth movement for the immersion processions.
