Deficit rain in 12 districts of Rajasthan

Jaipur, Sep 5 (UNI) At least 12 districts in Rajasthan have received deficit rainfall this year, even as some parts are yet to recover from the devastation trail left by flood and heavy downpour.

Meanwhile, monsoon has weakened in the state over the past two days.

According to Irrigation and Weather department, four districts have received abnormally heavy rainfall, seven districts received normal rainfall and 12 districts experienced deficit rainfall this year.

Last year normal rainfall was witnessed in 13 districts, less than normal in 17 districts and deficit rains in two.

Sources said Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur and Rajsamand received abnormally high downpours this season, which has been estimated to be 60 percent above normal.

Pali, Bhilwara, Kota and Jhalawar received 20 to 59 percent excess rainfall this year.

Whereas the flood-wrecked Barmer experienced 175 percent excess rains, the first in the history of this border area, while Jaisalmer had 99 percent excess rains.

Seven districts -- Ganganagar, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Alwar, Jhunjhunu, Baran and Bundi -- received normal rainfall this year.

But deficit rainfall in Jaipur, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Nagaur, Tonk, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawaimadhopur, Dausa and Sikar districts only made the people look skywards for more.

They recorded 20 to 59 percent lesser rains than expected this season. Jaipur district recorded 33 percent lesser rains.

Sources said 112 dams of 150 mcft capacity and 118 lesser capacity dams in the state are filled to the brim while 90 water bodies are partially filled and 24 dams are empty.

Udaipur district has maximum 47 big dams and 37 smaller dams filled to the brim.

Weather office says the monsoon has weakened in the state over the past 24 hours. Gangadhar in Kota division recorded 20 mm while Arnod in Udaipur division received 6 mm rain today. Dungarpur recorded 1 mm today.

The weather office predicts rains accompanied with thunder showers in some parts of the state over the next 24 hours.
