AAD protests growing campus violence across country
New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Alarmed over the growing incidence of campus violence across the country, the Academics for Action and Development (AAD) today held a ''silent'' protest march in the Delhi University campus.
The protestors, carrying placards and wearing black arm bands, condemned the alleged murder of Ujjain professor H S Sabharwal by some students.
AAD activists, a number of senior professors and heads of department from Delhi University participated in the march.
''Debates, discussions and difference of opinion should not be allowed to be substituted by violence. Any struggle is for achievement and not annihilation,'' AAD chairman S S Rathi said after the march.
''Being teachers day, we are hoping our protest will be registered and this trend will be checked,'' he added.
He said there is a need to sensitise all sections of society on values of campus culture.
Meanwhile, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) observed two minutes silence in the memory of Prof Sabhawral during a prayer meeting at the campus.
