Villagers launch agitation, block GT Road over student's rape
Kurukshetra, Sep 4 (UNI) Angry over the failure of police to solve a case of rape and murder of a student here last week, villagers today launched an agitation and blocked traffic on GT Road near Shahabad town in this district.
The agitators, led by the INLD Women's cell chairperson Kailasho Devi and Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chadhuni, gave ultimatum to the district administration to bring the guilty to book within three days, failing which the agitation will be intensified.
A student of a Shahabad college was raped and murdered in a field on August 31, while on her way home in Baram.
The protestors raised anti-police and anti administration slogans before blocking the vehicular traffic for one-hour.
The agitators allowed vehicular traffic to flow on G T Road between Ambala and Kurukshetra at Barara Chowk after one-hour after Deputy Commissioner, T K Sharma assured them that four police teams were searching for the culprits and two youths have already been arrested in Baram on the basis of suspicion while four others have been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, police patrolling in the area has been intensified.
All entry and exit gates of the college were closed today to prevent the girls from joining the agitators as they had done on Friday.
