UP local bodies elections: HC summons chief secretary

Allahabad, Sep 4 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today summoned Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai and urban development secretary to appear in person on September 8 in a contempt of court case.

The case pertains to the non-issuance of notification for holding local bodies elections in UP in spite of a HC order.

Justice D P Singh summoned both the officials as the petitioner's counsel informed that the respondents had failed to issue notification for holding local bodies elections in compliance of HC order of December 22, 2005.

UP filed an affidavit saying the government had already prepared an election programme for holding the local bodies polls.

The details of programme were mentioned in the affidavit.

The petitioner alleged the election was to be notified by August 21, 2006 by the state government, but it was not done till date.
