UP for 2 per cent job reservation to sportspersons

Lucknow, Sep 4 (UNI) To stop the exodus of sportspersons from state, the government today decided to provide two per cent reservation in government jobs to sportspersons, who have brought laurels for UP.

The two per cent reservation would be included in the overall 50 per cent reservation in jobs and would be implemented horizontally.

The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here.

According to the new reservation policy for the sportsmen, all government jobs excluding those selected by the Public Service Commission would give the benefit.

Sportspersons, who had won medals in international, national, university or school level competitions, would be entitled for reservation in grade C and D of UP government and public sector undertakings.

In another decision, the state government decided to hike the maintainance fee of cinema halls from existing Rs 1.50 per ticket to Rs 3 per ticket. The government, however, has put a condition the entire amount would be used for the maintainance of cinema halls.
