Two US Marines killed in Iraqi insurgent stronghold

BAGHDAD, Sep 4 (Reuters) Two US Marines were killed in action on Sunday in Iraq's Anbar province, the US military said in a statement today.

Anbar is where the three-year-old Sunni insurgency against the US occupation and the Shi'ite-led government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is worst and where the US military suffers most of its casualties.

''Two Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team five died yesterday due to enemy action while operating in al Anbar Province,'' the statement said.
