Third depression in Orissa, heavy rains in Bengal
Kolkata, Sep 4 (UNI) Incessant and at times heavy rains in Kolkata and adjoining areas in West Bengal continued for the third day today.
Several parts of the city were submerged and people had a trying time negotiating water logged areas.
Met sources said the heavy downpour occurred under the influence of the third major depression formed over the North Bay of Bengal near the coastal areas of north Orissa.
The depression, centered at Orissa's Chandbali, is likely to move in north westerly direction triggering heavy rains during the next 24 hours at several places in Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, the Alipore Met officials said.
Meanwhile, the fishermen in coastal areas in the state have been cautioned not to venture into the sea for the next 48 hours, Met sources said.
The ports in the state have also been cautioned to hoist the local signal number three to warn ships, they said.
The amount of rain recorded in the city last night was 90.4 mm.
It rained 31.5 mm from yesterday morning till noon.
The maximum temperature recorded today was a normal 32 degree Celsius and minimum 24 degree Celsius.
However, the humidity bothered the citizens which remained at 93 per cent.
