Special cell in MHA mooted to check human trafficking
New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) The Central Advisory Committee on combating Trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation has recommended setting up a special cell in the Home Ministry to check trafficking of women and children.
The Committee has also emphasised the need for strengthening preventive measures with special focus on targetting source, transit and destination points.
The meeting, which was held here the other day, under the chairpersonship of Mrs Deepa Jain Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, highlighted the enormity and the complexity of the problem, which needs to be addressed on an urgent basis.
The issues of rescue, repatriation and rehabilitation were also deliberated upon during the meeting, official sources said here today.
The meeting was attended by State Government representatives, NGO representatives, UN organisations, representatives from concerned central ministries/departments.
