Six-member inter-ministerial PC team to arrive in Pune tomorrow
Pune, Sep 4 (UNI) A six-member inter-ministerial team of Planning Commission will arrive here tomorrow to scrutinise the Rs 824 crore worth of proposal submitted by the Maharashtra government for the development of the infrastructure in and around the city for hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008.
The team members include A N P Soinha (Advisor, Planning Commission), S Krishnan (Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports), Harish Chandra (Advisor, Planning Commission), Jhanijha Tripathy (Director, Sports Authority of India), A V S Prasad (Additional Director-General - Organising Committee, 2010 Commonwealth Games) and Hardip Singh Kingra (Additional Director-General - Youth Games and Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010).
Earlier, the Maharashtra government had submitted the proposal worth Rs 824 crore for the development in and around the city.
In this regard, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is chairman of the games organising committee, along with the city MP Suresh Kalmadi who is the president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), had met Planning Commission Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia in Delhi some time last month.
Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Karandikar, along with Pune Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer and Maharashtra Director of Sports and Youth Affairs C Anil Kumar, will give a presentation to the members of the Planning Commission. Thereafter, the team members will take a decision regarding the Grant-in-Aid based on the report of the committee.
