SIMI sedition case judgement on Sep 6
Bahraich, Sep 4 (UNI) The district court today fixed September 6 for pronouncing judgement in the sedition case against Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) national president Shahid Badr Falahi and 11 other activists.
Uttar Pradesh had already issued a Government Order for the withdrawal of this case.
Submitting before district judge Anil Kumar Sinha today, standing counsel Anwar Ahmad Khan contended there was no evidence in the case documents, that could form the basis to prosecute SIMI members.
In 2001, the Kotwali police had lodged a case against Dr Falahi and 11 others after a SIMI seminar was held at Sir Sayyed Girls' College here, where Dr Falahi delivered inflammatory speeches.
A heavy police deployment in the presence of a magistrate was made at the venue to maintain peace and order.
Meanwhile, the fact, that the police registered the case 60 hrs after the speech was delivered, also came to light in today's hearing.
Due to the absence of witnesses, the chargesheet was filed after one year in the case, against the mandatory 90 days.
All the 12 accused including Dr Falahi are out on bail.
