Shiv Sena rally to highlight plight of farmers
Nagpur, Sep 4 (UNI) The Shiv Sena is slated to stage a rally later this month to highlight the plight of farmers in Maharashtra, especially in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Addressing a press conference here today, Shiv Sena MLA Diwakar Rawate said that the 'Santwana Dindi' (compassion rally), which will be undertaken on foot, would begin from Shegaon in Buldhana district of Vidarbha on September 10, and will conclude at Bharaswada in Parabhani district of Marathwada about two months later.
Rawate said he would walk the entire distance without any footwear.
The rally will pass through 1,400 villages during its 1,200 kilometre journey, during which an attempt would be made to understand the reasons behind the agrarian crisis in the two regions, he explained.
A team of psychologists would accompany the rally to counsel the distressed and bereaved families, Rawate informed.
The rally would pass through the six districts most affected by the the spate of farmers' suicides, that is Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Amravati, Wardha and Yavatmal, he added.
