New Delhi, Sept 4 (UNI) Mr Himanshu Sabharwal, son of Ujjain professor H S Sabharwal who allegedly died in an assault by students, today filed a petition with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and sought a CBI inquiry into the incident.

''The case should be handed over to the CBI... We have no faith in the local administration. The probe will not be fair under it,'' Mr Himanshu Sabharwal told reporters after filing the petition.

He alleged that the state government and police were not providing the family papers like postmortem report and medico- legal certificate (MLC) due to which they could not move the Supreme Court.

Mr Himanshu Sabharwal, who has also sought President A P J Abdul Kalam's intervention in the incident, claimed that the Madhya Pradesh government had rejected his request to transfer the case to the CBI.

''I have also appealed to NHRC to issue notices to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Sub-divisional Magistrate and police officials present at the time of the incident for encouraging violence and tampering with evidence,'' he added.

Media should also be made respondent in the case for being witness to the incident, he said.

On August 26, Professor Sabharwal was assaulted allegedly by some students in Madhav College. CID, which is investigation the case, has made a few arrests.
