New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) The Delhi Cabinet today decided to increase the age of retirement of teachers from 60 to 62 years.

The move, a day before Teacher's Day, would benefit nearly 40,000 government teachers, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said after the cabinet meet.

Officials said the step would help meet a shortage of teachers in the schools in the short run, besides, inspiring them to work more vigourously to further the improve standard of education.

The increase in the age of superannuation was subject to the fitness and vigilance clearance of the teachers, they said.

The government also in principle, accepted the recommendations of the Justice A S Qureshi Committee so as to ensure that hospitals and nursing homes that came up on concessional land provide free treatment to the poor, needy and deserved patients to the extent of 10 per cent of beds in the wards and 25 per cent of the OPD capacity.

The free treatment would cover domiciliary charges, food charges, cost of curative procedures and all kind of consumables. Every hospital/nursing home would also ensure constitution of a Poor Patient Advisory Committee for the purpose of screening and inspection of complaints of the poor, an official spokesperson said.
