R P Singh utilising camp for improving both batting and bowling
Bangalore, Sep 4 (UNI) Rookie medium pace bowler Rudra Pratap Singh, named in the Indian team to play in ICC Champions trophy, is looking to improve his batting to cement his place in the team in view of the World Cup to be held in West Indies next year.
In a chat with reporters at the conclusion of the second batch of the Rolling Camp for players bound for Kaula Lumpur tri-nation tournament, he said ''Honing up all round skills is the aim of this camp. I am trying to make improvements in my batting. I like to use these camps to bowl at good batsmen which would help me live up to the great challenges in the international arena in the coming months.'' Replying to a question, Singh who replaces pacer S Sreeshanth in the Championship trophy, said ''At present I want to take it step by step. Now I have found a place in the team for the next two tournaments, the tri-series and the Champions Trophy, I want to perform well in those events.'' About the novel methods used in the camp, the southpaw that, ''The training programmes in this camp was oriented to keep us better prepared so that debacles like the one happened in the Windies is not repeated in the future series. It has been very useful for us from an all-round point of view, cricket skills and fitness alike.
That the camp has been in batches was helpful as coach and the support staff can give more attention to individuals players.'' UNI MSP RS AY PC1935
