Bhopal, Sep 4 (UNI) The Forthcoming Teachers' Day celebrations will be overshadowed by the death of Professor H S Sabharwal of Madhya Pradesh's oldest Madhav College, after his own students assaulted him.

Teachers in several universities, including Bhopal's Barkatullah and Jabalpur's Rani Durgawati universities, have announced they would boycott the celebrations, while main opposition Congress has called a statewide bandh tomorrow demanding a CBI probe.

Prof Sabharwal died when he was attacked by students irked over postponement of student union elections on August 26. During student violence, the face of another Professor M L Nath was blackened, while college premises ransacked.

Shocked at the violent incident, all sections of society, including the academic world, spared no words in vitriolic criticism.

Allegations and counter-allegations continue to be levelled in the incident, which charged up the political atmosphere. Governor Balram Jakhar and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had assured that an impartial inquiry would be conducted into the incident.

The incident has put forth several questions regarding what led to the degradation of 'guru-shishya' relationship, which has been the tradition in the country, to such an extent that students murdered their professor.
