Agartala, Sep 4 (UNI) The People's Democratic Socialism (PDS), Tripura unit, has stressed the need for an alternative to the present CPI(M) led Left Front government in the state.

PDS General Secretary Ajoy Biswas said there was a need to replace the present Manik Sarkar government.

Mr Biswas alleged that the party, instead of the government, was taking all the important decisions of the state.

'' We are keen to form an alliance with the opposition Congress which has a strong political base here,'' Mr Biswas said.

''Though the PDS had already proposed for an alliance with the Congress, it is yet to confirm,'' Mr Biswas added.

''The democracy has evaporated from the state under the present government and the aspirations of the common people have remained unfulfilled so far. Neither the Congress nor the present left parties could solve the crisis,'' alleged the General Secretary.

The PDS, which had allied with the Congress during the last assembly elections, has decided to organise a mass movement this month in support of its nine-point charter of demands.

He alleged that the CPI(M) was politicising everything from job opportunities to distribution of job cards under National Rural Employment Job Gurantee Scheme in the state.

He also demanded for creation of a separate Human Rights Commission to curb the attrocities against women.
