Pawar's daughter becomes NCP candidate for Rajya Sabha

Mumbai, Sep 4 (UNI) Ms Surpiya Sule, daughter of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar, was today nominated the party candidate for byelection to Rajya Sabha to be held on September 18.

She will file her nomination papers here tomorrow, NCP leader and Union Aviation Minister Praful Patel announced here this evening.

The byelection is being held to fill up the vacancy necessitated by the death of NCP's Rajya Sabha member Vasant Chavan on July 11.

''The decision to field Ms Sule, whose father is also the Union Agriculture and Food Minister, was taken by NCP's Central Parliamentary Board on the recommendation of the party's state Parlimentary Board in a meeting held here today,'' Mr Patel said.

He attended the meeting of the state Board as an Observor.
