Pak says peace process with India not derailed

Islamabad, Sep 4: Pakistan today said that the peace process with India has not derailed and will go on.

Pakistan and Indian Foreign Secretaries had reiterated during a recent meeting in Dhaka that the process will go on, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam told a press briefing in Islamabad.

India had announced postponement of the composite dialogue process days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told a press conference in New Delhi that the elements behind the July 11 serial bombings in Mumbai had the support from elements across the border.

Pakistan had expressed disappointment at India's decision and said any derailment would be victory for those who desire subverting the peace process.

Peace process between Pakistan and India has not derailed, spokeswoman Aslam said and added the two countries realise that continuation of the process was in their interest.

She also said President Pervez Musharraf might meet Prime Minister Singh on the margins of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) summit in Havana later this month. The two leaders will talk about the peace process that includes every issue if the meeting takes place, she added.
