Manik Sarkar to head committee on Asom's CPI(M) revival
Agartala, Sep 4 (UNI) CPI(M)'s central committee has asked Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to head an 11-member team, which was constituted to strengthen the party in Asom.
A six-member delegation led by Asom's unit secretary and Sorbhog MLA Udhab Barman had a closed door discussion with partymen at Dharmanagar in north Tripura district yesterday.
Though the details of the meeting was not made public, it is assumed that they discussed about the steps to be taken for strengthening the Asom unit.
The party had fared badly in the last assembly elections in Asom, winning only two out of 126 assembly seats. Besides Tripura, Asom is the only state in Northeast where the party has members in the legislative assembly.
Asom was represented by Nisit Das, Dipak Bhattacharjee, Nirmal Dey, Deben Bhattacharjee and Samiran Acharjee besides Udhab Barman.
Besides Mr Sarkar, Lok Sabha MP Khagen Das and Central Committee member Bijon Dhar, members of Yuba Sangathan, Nari Samiti and Sramik Sangathan represented Tripura.
