Srinagar, Aug 4 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today revoked the suspension of opposition National Conference (NC) member Sharief Udddin Shariq after leader of the NC in the house Abdul Rahim Rather and Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baigh expressed regrets over the behaviour of their members on August 2.

Shariq was suspended on August 2 for two days for using alleged unparliamentary language against ruling partners during a discussion on disqualification bill.

As soon as the house assembled today, the members of the NC were on their feet demanding that the suspension of Mr Shariq be revoked.

Without taking the question hour, the speaker allowed Mr Rather to speak on the subject.

The treasury benches demanded a statement from Mr Rather alleging that opposition members said the speaker acted under pressure from the treasury bench. Some treasury members said Mr Rather had levelled serious allegations against the ministers and described them as thieves and docoits. However, Mr Rather denied having ever said anything against the treasury bench.

The house again witnessed heated arguments and the NC members alleged that government was not interested in business.

Later, the speaker directed Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baigh to speak on the issue.

Mr Baigh said the opposition has raised two issues--one whether the suspension of the member was within the rule and another if the house can revoke the suspension.

He said during the NC rule, a number of opposition members were suspended from the house for disrupting the proceedings of the house when they too were not present in the house after being physically removed from the house. However, the suspension was later revoked but every member at that time said members violated the rules.
