Iyer assures funds to Karnataka for development of adopted villages
Bangalore, Sep 4 (UNI) Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Iyer today assured to extend financial assistance to the Karnataka Government's ambitious project of adopting 1000 villages for overall development by spending over Rs 1000 crores.
Speaking to newsmen after a meeting with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy here, he said that Karnataka has sought the Centre's assistance for this unique scheme under which Rs One crore would be spent for the overall development of an adopted village. Basic infrastructure--all-weather road connectivity, supply of potable drinking water and electricity-- will be provided in all the adopted villages.
Mr Iyer said that the reservation system adopted in the village Panchayats, including the posts of President and Vice President, in Karnataka was more rational and would be introduced as a model at the national level.
