Chandigarh, Sep 4 (UNI) The Haryana government would spend Rs 365 crore for implementation of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan during the current financial year.

This is against Rs 200 crore spent in the year 2005-06 to improve the quality of education in the state, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said in a message issued on the eve of Teachers Day here today.

He said the state government had taken a number of steps to improve the quality of education. It had set a target to have 1.5 lakh trainers by the end of 11th Five Year Plan.

About 14,000 posts of teachers had been filled up in government schools, government-aided schools, government colleges and universities. The teacher-student ratio has been reduced to 1:40, Mr Hooda said.

It had been decided to set up a computer lab in each of the 1200 senior secondary schools and the intake capacity of technical institutes had been raised to 40,000.

Mr Hooda said with a view to encouraging higher education among women, a women university named after Bhagat Phool Singh had been set up at Khanpur Kalan village in Sonepat district. An additional allocation of Rs 75 crore had been made for repair and maintenance of buildings of schools.

Paying tributes to former President Sarvpalli Radhakrishnan, on whose birthday Teachers Day is celebrated every year, the Chief Minister complemented the teachers and urged them to render selfless services to society and make their pupils strong in character.
