Haryana raises expenditure limit for civic poll nominees

Chandigarh, Sep 4 (UNI) The Haryana State Election Commission has revised the limit of the expenditure to be incurred by the contesting candidates in elections to Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees.

State Election Commissioner Chander Singh said in case of election to Member, Municipal Council, the limit of expenditure would now be Rs 50,000 and in case of election for a member of Municipal Committee, it would be Rs 35,000.

He made this announcement while announcing that by-elections would be held to fill up five seats of members of Municipal Council in Karnal and one each seat in the Municipal Committees in Kalayat, Nilokheri and Bawani Khera. The vacancies in the wards of Municipal Committee, Kalayat and Nilokheri occurred due to the death of members.

The vacancy in case of Bawani Khera had occurred as the member was disqualified by the Commission.

Mr Singh said the model code of conduct had come into force with effect from today. Also, no official connected with the election work would be transferred till the completion of election process.
