Guj Govt announces Rs 215 cr package for flood-affected farmers

Gandhinagar, Sep 4 (UNI) The Gujarat government has announced Rs 215 crore financial package for flood-affected farmers.

The announcement was made here today by government spokespersons Urban Development Department Minister I K Jadeja and Minister of State for Finance Saurabh Patel.

They said the package would benefit around 6.32 lakh flood-affected farmers in over 8,000 villages. The floods had recently devastated 7.53 lakh hectares of agricultural land.

The package was worked out after a detailed study conducted by experts and the compensation would be given on the basis of the extent of damage to crops, machinery, and fertiliser, Mr Jadeja said.

The package also includes lessening the burden of electricity payment of farmers in the form of grace period. The August-September bill can be paid in four monthly installments, starting from October to January next year.

Mr Patel said the Chief Minister has appointed a high-power committee for evaluating losses incurred by small and cottage industries and a package would be announced soon once the committee submits its report.
