Flood continues to haunt UP
Lucknow, Sep 4 (UNI) Flood continues to wreak havoc in major districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The water level in Ganga and Yamuna are rising rapidly in Allahabad and it is expected, that both rivers will cross the danger level by 1200 hrs tomorrow.
The district administration has already asked the residents of 250 villages, situated in low- lying areas on the banks of Ganga and Yamuna, to shift to safer places following ensuing danger of flood.
Following release of water from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the water level of both the rivers is rising at the rate of 15 cms per hour and recorded one meter rise during the last 24 hours.
District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat today said the administration was fully prepared to meet any situation caused by flood. He has instructed officials to be alert and ready for any situation.
''Political stability in Nepal hold the key to a permanent solution to the annual flood problem in East UP districts, including Gorakhpur, Baharaich, Lakhimpur Kheri and Faizabad'' State Revenue and Relief Minister Ambika Chaudhary told newspersons yesterday.
The Minister said the flood problem in Eastern UP could only be addressed by building reservoirs and barrages in the Himalyan Kingdom, whose swelling rivers, actuate flood in Saryu, Sharda and Ghaghra rivers on this side of the border.
People in Faizabad, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Barabanki, Gonda and Lakhimpur Kheri have heaved a sigh of relief with the water level of Rapti, Ganga, Sharda, Saryu and Ghagra decreasing.
A report from Hamirpur said Betwa was rising continuously along its course, following which the situation is tense in Jhansi and Hamirpur districts.
