Bhubaneswar, Sep 4 (UNI) The flood situation in coastal and north Orissa worsened further as a depression formed over North West Bay of Bengal crossed the north Orissa coast and lay centred west of Chandbali today.

Met sources said the system is likely to move further and move in west-north westerly direction to cause heavy to very heavy rains at a few places and rain and thunder showers at many places during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, several parts of coastal and north Orissa recorded heavy rains throwing life out of gear at many places and bringing more miseries to the flood affected people in thousands of marooned villages.

Most major rivers in the Mahanadi system have started rising again and another spell of flood, the sixth in series since June, is likely to hit the state, sources said.

The authorities had already hoisted the local cautionary signal number three at Paradip, Gopalpur, Puri and Chandbali ports and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Squally weather, with wind speed reaching over 60 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off the Orissa coast during the next 24 hours, met sources warned.
