Depression brings more rain to flood-ravaged AP

Hyderabad, Sep 4 (UNI) North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, which bore the brunt of the flood fury last month, experienced heavy rain as the depression crossed the north Orissa coast near Chandbali this morning.

The system, which lay centered at 0830 hrs about 50 km west of Chandabali, was likely to bring moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts in the coastal region.

Isolated heavy rain (25 cm or more) was likely to occur in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam of Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours, Met Centre Director M Satya Kumar told UNI.

Squally winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph were likely along and off north Andhra coast during the next 12 hours. Fishermen were asked not to venture into the sea in view of rough to very rough condition along and off the coast during the period.

Local cautionary signal ''No three'' was hoisted at Kalingapatnam Port and distant cautionary signal ''No one'' at Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Machilipatnam Ports, a report from Visakhapatnam quoting the Cyclone Warning Centre said.

Under the influence of the system, which was moving in west-northwesterly direction, enhanced rainfall was likely in Telangana from tomorrow, he said.

The chief intensity of rainfall recorded in cm were Chittoor, Palamaner and Thambalapalle 6 each, Paleru Bridge, Puttur, Vinjamur 4 each, Nellore, Palasa and Venkatagiri Kota 3 each.
