Chinese mega industrial park coming up in Bengal

Kolkata, Sep 04 (UNI) A number of major Chinese industries would set up their own units in an exclusive Chinese Industrial park at Haldia in West Bengal.

As a major step in this direction, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was today signed between the Jiangsu Province Overseas Company and the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation for the allotment of 250 acre of land at the port city by this year end.

Chairman of the Jiangsu Province Overseas Company Huang Hong Liang signed the agreement on behalf of his country, while Commerce and Industry Secretary Sabyasachi Sen did so for the state government and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) in presence of other senior officials of both the parties. .

The State government would remain the facilitator of the multi-million dollar project Speaking to newsmen after signing of the MOU, Dr Sen said under the unique proposal the Jiangsu Province Overseas Company with its headquarets at Nanjing city in South West China would work as the sole developer of the country's first exclusive Chinese Industrial Park at Haldia.

A number of mega Chinese industries from chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, engineering and food processing sectors would set up their own units for manufacturing their products for the overseas markets.

Stating that the exact blueprint of the industrial park was yet to be finalised, Dr Sen said a high power four-member team from Jinanghsu Province Overseas Company had selected Haldia as the ideal site for the proposed park after visiting a number of places in different states across the country.

The most important fact was that the Chinese delegation had approached the state government for the land and other infrastructural facilities for the proposed park after gathering enough information about the state and its industrial programmes, Dr Sen informed.

He said when implemented the project would open a new window of opportunity both in terms of generating employment and the revival of industrial process of the state.
