Briton Murray upsets Gonzalez to reach fourth round
NEW YORK, Sep 4 (Reuters) British teenager Andy Murray upset 10th seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-3 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-2 to reach the fourth round of the US Open yesterday.
Murray, the 17th seed, looked in trouble when he trailed by two sets to one, but the 19-year-old roared back to clinch his first ever five-set victory and a place in the last 16.
After winning a topsy-turvy first set, Murray was overpowered in the second and third as Gonzalez took control.
But the Scot stepped up his game to level and after storming to a 4-0 lead in the decider, closed out victory to set up a clash with seventh seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia or Pole Lukasz Kubot.
