BJP says amnesty only option to save Delhi from destruction

New Delhi, Sept 4 (UNI) Blaming Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, his deputy Ajay Maken and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for the sealing and demolition chaos, the BJP today said a 'general amnesty scheme' was the only option which could save Delhi from 'total destruction' and prevent people from coming on the streets.

Except for illegal constructions on government and public land and those on the negative list, all constructions should be legalised under the amnesty scheme so that the Delhi people are spared the trauma and tribulations faced with for the last couple of months, said senior BJP leader V K Malhotra told mediapersons here.

''We demand, besides other things, that all unauthorised colonies built on public land be regularised, Lal Dora land in rural areas be exempted from building bylaws, Old Delhi markets be declared commercial areas and religious places built before January 1 this year be spared from demolition.'' Only after this should the next Master Plan be passed, he said adding, that Mr Reddy had even said if needed a special session of the Parliament would be called to prevent demolition but nothing of this sort has been done to alleviate the sufferings of the people of Delhi.

Delhi party president Hashvardhan said people are bemused over the government's insensitive approach towards their problem.

''It is all because those in the government have vested interests and were catering to the interests of various lobbies.'' If this callous approach of the Congress government continues, we will come onto the streets in a big way, along with the people, which would then leave no option before the government, he added.
