BJP demands CBI inquiry into alleged food scam

Kolkata, Sep 4 (UNI) The BJP here today demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged swindling of 3.2 million tonnes of paddy by the state controlled CONFED from various rice mills in the state.

However, hailing Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee for ordering an Enforcement Bureau level inquiry into the alleged scam amounting to Rs 200 crores, BJP state General Secretary Rahul Sinha in separate letters to Mr Bhattacherjee and Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi claimed that a number of senior government officials and a few Left Front leaders were involved in the alleged misappropriation of money.

Armed with figures in support of his claim, Mr Sinha expressed doubts about the possible oucome of the state level inquiry into the scam of this magnitute and urged the Governor as well as the Chief Minister to handover the probe to the CBI to ensure strict action against the guilty.
