Bank credit grows by 31.6 pc: RBI data
Mumbai, Sep 4 (UNI) The credit disbursed by the scheduled commercial banks grew by 31.6 per cent to Rs 15,76,145 crore on year on year basis as on August 18, 2006, as reported by RBI in its weekly statistical supplement on September one.
The bank credit as on August 18, 2006, looked more tilted towards the non-food sector. The credit to the food sector has reduced by Rs 3,793 crore from August 19, 2005, to August 18, 2006. Out of the Rs 15,76,145 crore disbursed as on August 18, 2006, an amount of Rs 36,535 crore was allocated to the food sector. The balance sum of Rs 15,39,611 crore was allocated to the non-food sector.
On August 18, 2006, the credit-deposit ratio stood at 70.48, while the cash-deposit ratio and investment deposit ratio were 6.04 and 34, respectively.
The total liabilities of the scheduled commercial banks to the banking system for the above period dropped considerably by Rs 11,027 crore to Rs 68,686 crore.
However, their liabilities to others increased. They shot up by Rs 8,39,445 crore to Rs 47,49,634 crore. During the period under consideration, the aggregate deposits grew up by 21.7 per cent.
