Asom bans oil officers' strike after talks with Centre fail

Guwahati, Sep 4 (UNI) The Asom government today banned any form of strike by oil sector officials after the Oil Sector Officers' Association (OSOA) called for an indefinite strike from tomorrow.

Talks between the OSOA and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora failed to make any headway at New Delhi today.

The OSOA have been demanding parity in pay with multi-national companies.

The Asom government in a bid to minimize impact of the strike, which is expected to hit the oil sector hard, had banned officers from resorting to strike by evoking Section 3 of the Essential Services Maintenance (Assam) Act, 1980.

A notification to the effect with immediate implementation had been issued, a release informed here.

Oil sector officers involved in any service in oil field, refinery or any oil establishment dealing with production, supply or distribution of petroleum or petroleum products would come under the purview of order.
