Apollo Hospitals announces PET-CT Scan facility
Bhubaneswar, Sep 3 (UNI) Apollo Hospitals announced the availability of the 'most advanced cancer detection and treatment facilities' at its centre in Hyderbad with the help of PET-CT Scan.
''PET-CT (Positron Emission Tomography - Computerised Tomography) is a state of the art machine that combines metabolic imaging with high resolution rapid anatomic imaging. The scanner has provided medicine with a powerful new diagnostic toll,'' Dr Surya Prakash, Nuclear Medicine Specialist of the Apollo Hospital told a press conference here on Sunday.
He said the Apollo at Hyderabad had already performed over 2000 PET-CT Scans successfully.
Elaborating on the machine, Dr Surya Prakash said it scans the entire body at once making detection of cancer earlier. ''Moreover, its an ideal tool to assess the response to treatment and to monitor a patient for recurrence of cancer after completion of treatment,'' said the Apollo specialist.
To a question he said a single PET-CT scan costs about Rs 27,000.
Asked about the elite profile of the Hosptals, Dr Surya Prakash said his management was committed to providing health care within ''minimum possible cost''.
PET-CT Scan is not exclusive to the Apollo Hospitals. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi and Tata Meorial Cancer Hospital at Mumbai are also equipped with the machine, sources said.
