Ajay Chautala moves HC against SEZs in Haryana

Chandigarh, Sep 4 (UNI) The constitutional validity of the Central Act as also the Act enforced by the Haryana government for setting up of Special Economic Zones(SEZs) has been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by Rajya Sabha member and INLD leader Ajay Singh Chautala.

A writ petition filed by him and INLD MLA from Dabwali(SC) constituency in Sirsa district Dr Sita Ram jointly, came up for preliminary consideration before the division bench of acting Chief Justice Harjit Singh Bedi and Justice Ranjit Singh.

The petitioners have also sought directions to quash the Memorandum of Understanding and the subsequent proceedings arising from it, between the Haryana government and Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd's sister concern Reliance Ventures Ltd (RVL).

It has been alleged by the petitioners that precious land measuring about 1,600 acre in Gurgaon with current market price of nearly Rs 6000 crore has been given to Reliance for a paltry Rs 260 crore. This was also against the interests of those farmers whose land had been acquired primarily by the state-owned Haryana Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (HSIIDC) against nominal compensation.

The bench has however, referred the matter to another bench and the same would be heard on September 18 by the division bench of Justices Surinder Nijjar and Surinder Singh Saron.
