Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Sep 4 (UNI) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has extended 200 million USD to India for tsunami relief and rehabilitation work, a top bank official today said.

Speaking to reporters here after a review meeting with district officials, ADB Director General of South Asia Department Kunio Senga said the bank had extended half the assistance (100 million USD) as grant and the balance as loan.

He said the ADB was constantly monitoring the relief and rehabilitation work, including building houses and provision of basic facilities in the affected areas to ensure world class service.

Mr Senga opined the officials should undertake the relief work in coordination with the affected people for successful implementation.

The ADB official said the relief and rehabilitation work was expected to be completed by 2008.

Earlier, Mr Senga visited Thazhanguda village and distributed loans to women's Self Help Groups (SHGs).
