TISCO has enough land for fresh plant, Congress

Ranchi, Sep 3 (UNI) Asserting that the Congress is not against industrialisation, AICC secretary Mabel Rebello today criticised the Jharkhand government for allegeldy allocating the tribal lands to big industrial houses without conducting any review.

Ms Rebello said the Centre would soon come up with a tribal policy to ensure participation of tribals, who live far from the mainstream of the society, in government schemes.

The bill is being prepared by the tribal MPs.

Addressing a press conference, she said the pace of industrialisation in the state has been undermining the feelings of the local people.

Citing the example of Saraikela, she said against the wish of local people, the state government was in a mood to give 22 villages to TISCO to set up plant with 12 million tonne production capacity.

She said TISCO has enough land to set up a huge plant of 20 million tonne production capacity and fresh allocation of land was not necessary.

Ms Rebello said land in that area was fertile and the agriculture was the only means of liveliehood.

Advocating the need for a proper rehabilitation scheme for the displaced, she said land should be given to people against the land acquired from them.

Earlier National Scheduled Tribe Commission vice-president Yogendra Singh Raju Khed spoke about the conditions of the tribal people which he saw during his three-day tour of the state.

State Congress general secretary Dr Sailesh Sinha was also present at the conference.
