TATA-Bangladesh signs MOU

Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and TATA Steel signed a MOU in Dhaka today.

As per the MOU Tata Steel undertakes to train Bangladeshi sportsmen and women in their sports facilities in Jamshedpur.

Lieutenant general Moeen U Ahmed, psc, Chief of Army staff of Bangladesh Army and President of BOA graced the occasion a Chief Guest.

Mr Kutubuddin Ahmed Acting Secretary General BOA signed the MOU on behalf of BOA while Mr A N Singh, Deputy Managing Director (Corporate services) Tata Steel inked it on behalf of his company.

The MOU identified several areas where the initial emphasis would be given.

''We have some of the best training facilities in these sports and hgope that we will be able to quickly bring the levels of the chosen athletes to international standard,'' said Mr Satish Pillai, Chief of Sports, Tata Steel.

''This is a part of our ongoing effort to engage with sports in Bangladesh,'' added Mr. Manzer Hussain, Resident Director Tata group Bangladesh ''As you are aware Tata has been active in sponsoring the Nitol-tata National Football League for many years now. CSR is integral to Tata Group's business philosophy and the Group has a long history of patronizing sports.'' Mr A N Singh, Deputy Managing Director (Corporate Services) Tata Steel, on his first visit to Bangladesh, was overwhelmed with the commitment of BOA towards promoting sports.

He said ''we have now embarked upon a long term relationship with the sports fraternity of Bangladesh and we are confident the MOU with BOA will help in further strengthening the bond between the sports lovers of this region.'' It is mentionable here that Tata Steel recently conducted a week long training camp where Tata Football Academy took 90 youngsters of the finalist teams of the National School Football competition through an intensive coaching camp.
