Sultan outshines Manavjit on opening day of Asian Clay Shooting

Singapore, Sep 3 (UNI) Anwar Sultan stole the limelight from his World Champion compatriot Manavjit Singh Sandhu as he took the lead in the Trap competition on the opening day of the Asian Clay Shooting Championship here today.

Sultan shot a score of 49 in the first two rounds to take a one shot lead over Hui of China. Manavjit was third with a score of 47 followed by compatriot Mansher Singh, who shot 46.

''Some of the targets on Range I were not set to regulation, they were too slow which made me loose my rhythm on a couple of targets, that I dropped,'' Manvjit said of his performance.

''My score is ideally set for a launch tomorrow for the final day,'' he added.

Usually in a Trap competition three rounds of 25 clays each are shot on day one and two rounds on the second day before the final round of 25 clays. However, at this championship two rounds will be shot on day one and the remaining rounds plus the finals on day two.

The light was changing constantly because of patches of clouds, which made the conditions a bit difficult at times for the shooters.

In the team event, defending champion India are leading with a score of 143 out of 150, closely followed by the Chinese team with a score of 142.

The other two Indian shooters taking part in the Trap event are Birendeep Sodhi who is at a Minimum Qualification Score of 46 and Zorawar Singh Sandhu at 39.
