Speaker takes stock of flood situation
Jammu, Sep 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Tara Chand along with Minister for Rural Development Jugal Kishore Sharma and MP Madan Lal Sharma today visited several villages in Akhnoor tehsil to take stock of the situation in the areas adjacent to the Chenab river following a downpour.
The villages they visited include Changwan, Devipur, Bhour, Naiwala, Chak Kiratpur, RakhMuthi, Jourian, Mandiwala, Chak Sikander, Khour, Sitreyal, Indri and Gajral.
While interacting with villagers, the Speaker asked them to constantly monitor the flow of water in the river besides advising them to move to safer areas. The team also enquired from the villagers about the damage the flood waters caused.
Mr Tara Chand said if need be sufficient number of tents would be made available to the people of these villages.
He also informed the people residing in the low-lying villages that the Air Force has also been put on high alert for their evacuation to safer locations, if required.
